  2. re: tuning to wind speed — would be reasonably easy to adaptively tune the tension in the strips. Would cost a bit more than $2-5, but not that much if electronics were made in quantity

Re: scaling up to larger sizes The slick part is the(I suspect) inventor’s intuitive realization that the best solution changes if you move to a different regime of Reynolds number.

Think “science says bumble bees can’t fly,” this is true, in terms of Reynolds number, bees don’t fly – they swim)

  4. How does he tune it to resonate at the constantly changing wind speed? What minimum wind speeds are we looking at? haha.. I WANT SOME FIGURES!

  5. At least you are thinking, but this is bogus science. On a large scale, no way.

  7. This wouldnt work in the real world. For the string to vibrate as it did in the video, the wind needs to be at the same frequency as the natural frequency of the bow. THis would be incredibly rare outside without fan presets.

  8. Cool. Does your prototype rotate to turn with the wind?

  9. Awesome! If only we would use this and other clean energies the planet would be a much better place. But a group of rich fat pigs would not like the idea of FREE energy now would they? heh.

  10. Nice concept. Wonder if you could also add the coils and magnets to both sides of the belt. Then for more power, several of those units hooked up in parallel will give you more amperage. Series and parallel for more voltage and amperage as you would connect with batteries and solar panels. Great idea! Keep it up.

  13. This is good, it “makes some energy”. Maby if you try some “wind directors” you can effectively “funnel” an extra volume of wind past the mylar strip and maby have a larger output.

  14. pretty sure there is no tuning to do as wind speed changes. you tune it to the frequency of the material used. the wind speed will change the output not the frequency.

  22. It shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out an automatic tuning system to dynamically adjust the tension for the optimal energy generation.
This could possibly be an electronic, ‘active’ system, or perhaps even some sort of passive system using variable resistance elastic bands.

  23. i guess u would need to constantly tune it to the different wind speeds? Seems interesting but how is it on a cost per watt on a higher output level?

  25. Not just goow, it is fantastic in its simplicity, only if it could be produced comercialy in large quantities so we would have cleaner planet.
Only thing is how much noise does this make, I think that it is heard like bunch of insects…
