Why is my worm farm so alkaline?

Question by I Love Dogs!: Why is my worm farm so alkaline?
I tested the PH of my worm farm, and discovered to my surprise the PH was about 8.5-9. I thought it would be the opposite. I use palm fronds, kitchen waste and coffee grinds as their food. What could be the cause/reason for the high alkalinity?
