Question by Thor Edens: Where would be the best place to open a farm/ranch in colorado?
My wife and I are planning on starting a small farm/ dairy ranch in Colorado in a few years. We intend to raise goats, rabbits, and chickens in the beginning and conduct small scale agriculture as well (primarily herbs, cold weather fruits, and enough vegetables for ourselves). We are looking to live far enough away from major cities to have land, but close enough so that we will be able to have electricity and internet available. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. Since the Western half of Colorado tends to be where the mountainous areas are you need to choose somewhere in the Eastern half where the farm/prairie land is located.

  2. Most fruit grown in Colorado is on the Western slope. (Which is farm and ranch land not mountains – jeez) Towns such as Palisade, and Fruita are centers for apple, cherry and peach orchards as well as grapes. The medium sized town is Grand Junction.
