What should I wear over my formal gown? Leather jacket or traditional cardi?

Here’s Dennis (the farmer whose place I’m at for the season) mowing his cover crop down to start preparing the soil for planting. There was a whole carpet of 3 ft tall fava bean plants when he started, and the tractor just mowed right through them all as if it were nothing. Pretty amazing.

I’m going to a formal event and i’m going to be wearing a long, flowing maxi dress with an empire waist. The dress is cream-colored with black lace around the waist. My shoes are black strappy sandals.

What should I wear to cover up my shoulders: a cropped black leather jacket or a black cardigan?
