Things I learned when I was a student at Cal Poly, SLO, ag school extraordinaire.

Dirt is what you find behind your refrigerator. Soil is what you plant things in.

Question by Awesome Nana: What is the white stuff in my garden soil?
I am not referring to the white beads for moisture control found in most soil mixes.

I have a raised garden bed and we starting preparing it for planting. When turning the soil to remove any dead roots from last years harvest, we found white soil in clumps. I assume it is some kind of mold so is it a good bacteria or harmful and should I get a fungus killer?
