Question by A.J.Kane: What could be a thesis for the significance of Iwo Jima. Creative Writers Welcomed?
I need to write a thesis for Iwo Jima. I know what to write Its just not as powerful as I hoped. I want it to sound like amazing keep the info but make it come alive! im just not good at that. I make things sound boring and insignificant.

I know the Importance – The capture of Iwo Jima was part of a three-point plan the Americans had for winning the war in the Far East. They could be used by Japanese fighter planes to attack American bombers on their flights to Japan. Under American control, the airfields could be used as emergency landing bases for damaged airplanes in the bombing raids. They could also be used for American fighter planes to escort the bombers, as they needed smaller runways for take-off.

I know the Significance – What the battle did show the Americans was how far the Japanese would go to defend their country – a decision that was to influence the use of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
And Its a paragraph type thesis btw

  1. You basically covered it outside of the fighters had a smaller flight range and needed a closer island to fly from to protect the American bombers.

It may be better to choose Siapan over Iwo Jima.

The battle for Saipan and it’s Banzai charges was the initiation of Suicide operations and the largest of the Pacific War July 7, 1944. It only took a rumor that the Emperor called Gyokusai– “Death with honor”. Between 3,000 and 4,000 solders and 1,000 laborers died in what became unorganized banzai attacks. This started before dark June 6 by saving the honor of any Japanese solder too weak to walk or bear arms by killing him. Then arming the assembled men …weapons unavailable men where armed with bamboo poles, some sharpened, some tipped with crude iron sharpened as best they could. That historical witness sealed Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s fate.

The loss of Siapan had an enormous effect upon Japan and led to Tojo’s resignation and the Emperors distancing from military direction.

Siapan has the historical anomaly that it is a small Northern island grouped with the larger Guam and Tinian island from where both atomic attacks were launched.

Interestingly the USS Indianapolis was involved in the invasion of Siapan and was latter to deliver the Hiroshima bomb. The Hiroshima bomb was welded to the deck of the Indianapolis in a great hurry the naval rumor mill in full bore labeled the crate, “MacArthur’s scented toilet paper”. The Indianapolis set off for Tinian at full speed on a bee line course disregarding naval zigzag protocol and burnt one of her boilers out in the effort. Reaching Tinian that lost boiler may have contributed to her torpedoing when she sailed on to Leyte and received the highest US .loss of lives in any sinking in the war.

If you should retain Iwo Jima the Mt. Suribachi flag raising photo used in the war bond drive funded the remainder of the war! In Tibbit’s atomic weapon mission (I believe one of the weather planes developed engine trouble and had to land there…or was it the Nagasaki mission?)
