In 1921 the Birmingham (Alabama) City Commission funded the construction and operation of a "Model Poultry Farm" to encourage city residents to start back-yard chicken raising for eggs and meat.

Located in Avondale Park, the model farm was staffed by poultry expert Miles Bradford who gave demonstrations and distributed instructional pamphlets.

Question by NONAME: Was it rude of this girl to tell me to go back to my farm and plow some corn?
Which I dont have. So I was in some inner city store, and tried to impress the pretty cashier by telling her that I was out getting some smokes, picking up my welfare check, hitching up some dope dealer, and getting my bling bling cleaned. So she told me to go back to the farm. What gives, and the girl was white.
PS. Im not even a farmer. Or live in the country.

  6. Pretty cashiers have gotten plenty tired of hearing lame come-ons from customers. They’ve all had to develop some retorts to discourage bozos like you.

My advice: Develop a more low-key, friendly approach rather than trying to impress girls and women with stupid jazz-bo conversation.

  8. What she meant was that if you really did say all that, and it’s true, you’re a waste of space.

And if it’s not true, you’re also a waste of space because it’s not funny and only an idiot would be impressed by a guy saying anything so stupid.

  9. I really shouldn’t.

    But..ok. I’ll play.

    Was it rude..?

Supply the name of the store, the (inner) city and street in question..and a little better description than “pretty white cashier”. I will personally phone the shop and ask her what she meant by the remark and if she felt she was being rude.

If I had to take a stab at it, I would surmise that the cashier ‘touche’d the the customer. No, not touched. Touche` = a term used to acknowledge a hit in fencing or the point (argument, accusation, etc.) by countering with ones own point (either of the blade or of the tongue). May also be referred to as having been ‘boomeranged”.

Perhaps the cashier in this tale presumed that the customer was joking, or pulling her leg..by appearing to be so deeply lost in the land of stereotypes. Being a clever girl..citified and ‘street smart’.. the cashier took that ball and ran with it: responding with an equally inaccurate stereotype of her own re: people who live in non-urban areas all having farms, etc.

This would be one of those ‘which came first..the chicken or the egg’ Zen-farmer-type riddles. In fact..
    oh never mind.

Determining the apportionment of ‘rudeness’ is what’s necessary, as both characters dialogue was not politically correct. If one goes out of his way to bait others by saying/doing/posting online; extremely inflammatory and/or derisive remarks, targeting a specific person or group..with the intention of causing others to react..THAT, in and of itself, would be classified as “rude”.

If/when another responds with similar poor manners and unseemliness, that person would be also classified as “rude”.

What tips the scales in this particular fable, is that the cashier was working. Technically, she had a responsibility to her employer, (Mr. Slicker, owner of Mr. City-Slicker’s Big Top of Bargains”), to refrain from sarcasm, irreverent (and possibly misinterpreted) ironic-style humor, as well as not allowing herself to be baited by every Tom, Dick and Jethro that crosses her checkout counter. She had an obligation to maintain a calm, cool and collected demeanor, ring the customer up, bag his items, and send him off with: “Thank you..come again”!
(perfectly acceptable to roll ones eyes at the peculiar customer, as long as one isn’t seen doing so by other customers).

The moral of the story is:
One should always keep their stereotypes to themself in mixed company.
