  1. @animalover27 Silkies are especially hard to sex and you probably won’t be able to tell for several months when their crown feathers grow in (or one starts to crow). If you watch my chicken videos, you’ll see that I ended up with two roosters! I would recommend not getting Silkies if this is an issue for you. Buy young hens (pullets) fom a breeder who knows what they’re doing. Good luck! xo

  10. @invsblthnk8 Yes, we do eat chicken from local farmers, though very rarely (because it’s not very convenient to go out and get the chicken). I have eliminated meat from my personal diet, but my family still eats it. For us, we are concerned about the treatment of the animals while they are being raised, but we are not against eating animals. I don’t buy store-bought eggs either because of the way factory-farm chickens are raised.
