Thoughts upon watching this: (1) Your dad is HELPING you build the chicken coop? Looks like he’s doing it, LOL. (2) Tell your dad the kneepads make him look more professional. (3) 70 years old is not old.

Respond to this video… Anyway, I am not going to get into conspiracy theories. I have a clothe line and a compost in a part of town where they are prohibited. But I look at them as none-sense bylaws and went ahead anyway. Two years later, no problems whatsoever. I am thinking about raising chickens in the future and stumbled upon this video. All I can say is that if my municipal government tells me later that I can’t do so I’ll be the first one to challenge them.

@genghisgirl I am not saying “government” doesn’t share part of the blame for the way our society is nowadays. But one needs to see past a piece of legislation like “not allowed to keep chickens in backyard” and think who had lobbied the government for it (for example, real estate companies in fear that chickens in the backyard would drive real estate prices down; corporate farmers in fear that they would have no business).

@driller62869 The problems are not with the government. The problems lies in corporations who tell you that you can (eg. HAVE TO) buy everything from them therefor we lose our precious knowledge in sustainable living and self-reliance. If the government have any faults in it it would be allowing corporations to have their ways for so long.

If this country had more dads like your dad…..We would be great Americans again….No need for government handouts….and pass basic skills to younger generations.

Wow, that’s a bit harsh, eh. I mean, chickens are pretty benign! We are not allowed roosters in town (city limits), and I can understand the reason for that, but why you aren’t allowed hens is hard to understand. Mind you, we don’t have predators here. Does having chickens attract dangerous predators there? Is that the reason for the law? So curious, now…lol.

Are you not allowed chickens where you live? You mentioned in the video that you told the neighbours it was a rabbit hutch…lol.

@oreoozz There’s no part 2, but if you go to my channel youtube[dot]com/genghisgirl and look at my playlists, I have a bunch of chicken videos featuring the coop. I also have a smaller “bunk bed” style coop for a newer flock of bantam chicks. Thanks for watching!!

@getsmartnow2011 It’s an approximate cube – 4 x 4 x 4 – and the roof slopes toward the back. There’s three nesting boxes inside with a shelf for roosting. You can find more pics on my blog in the chickens section. bexlife[dot]com
