Should military personnel be a different species?

Garlic and alfalfa. The herb bed at the back is already attracting bees.

Question by Mr. P: Should military personnel be a different species?
The military take a long time converting civvy recruits into fighting units, and once there, tend to raise their own children with the same values.
Ex-military personnel sometimes don’t integrate well with society, so tend to take police roles or security jobs when they find it hard to adapt.
Comparing humans to bees – There are those bred to fight, and those bred to work. The fighters are cared for, and the workers do not become aggressive.

In our society it is all mixed, where aggression within the workplace is frowned upon, and military personnel who are passive are ousted – so why not breed workers and fighters separately ?

  1. Your greatly mistaken in your assumptions..

And why do you assume all military is front line fighters?

Only 1/3 of the USMC is infantry, so the other 2/3 are not fighters as you say.

And these people who take police jobs or security jobs would of done this regardless of military or no military. Dont blame the military for changing someone after 4 years.

  2. What ever dude…I am former military and I am not breeding “fighters”…I don’t even have kids. I work at a hospital. I was a Corpsman where I took care of sick and injured. My job was to care for the fallen and wounded Marines and Sailors.

It was actually quite easy to adapt. The military hospitals have very similar and some of the same standards of care as civilian hospitals.

Many of the aggressive people in the workforce by the way are civilians..military people have more restraint (usually) and know better than to just go off on people. We are better able to handle work stressors.

  3. “The nation that will insist on drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to have its fighting done by fools and its thinking done by cowards.”
    Sir William Francis Butler

Not quite what you are asking, but still somewhat relevant.

  4. I spent my military time as a pencil pusher.
Most of the guys I knew said they were lovers not fighters.
A typical soldier says, “I’ve got news for you, I didn’t join the Army to fight.’

  5. Sounds like you are a fan of Robert Heinlein who wrote a science fiction Novel on this subject.

If you want the military to be subject to civilian rule and not take over the government, then you need military people from the civilian population.

Create two distinct classes and or species, and their will be conflict between them caused by each wanting what is in their own best interest.

  6. It isn’t that hard to “integrate” into society after being in the military. Even after being in the infantry.
Don’t base your opinions on things you see on tv or the movies.

  7. If you mean that Military personnel raise their children with a sense of duty, honor and loyalty you are right, and thank you for noticing. As far as fighting goes you are way off base. Most of the MOS’s (jobs) in the military are some sort of support for the Infantry. It used to be that a small percentage of Soldiers would actually see combat duty in their careers, that has changed thanks to the Global War on Terrorism, Soldiers generally, in my opinion, don’t join the Army to go fight wars, but it is understood that every Soldier is a combat Soldier when called to do so. My two sons joined the Army after seeing the sacrifices I made for the past 21 years, they understood that the Army is a great opportunity that MAY require you to go to a foreign country and fight for our way of life. The both chose the same job which will require both of them to deploy within the next 3 months, and by the way, I will be deployed at the same time. We may have a hard time adapting when we get out of the Army, that may be due to the fact that we have been part of a DISCIPLINED society while active duty, in case you haven’t noticed, the majority of civilians are no where near as disciplined as the Army or any other branch of service. As far as taking police roles or security jobs, that is true quite often, basically because due to our training we are fit for those jobs, physically as well as mentally.

  8. Another liberal trying to understand what it means to be a member of the United States Military, also doesn’t understand what honor, courage and duty mean.

    I’ll bet he’s voting for NObama 2008 too….

Obviously having a hard time adopting to reality aren’t you, to bad, go back and have nice big glass of the NObama Kool-Aid to wash down your two prozac pills and viagra.
