Producers in Hughes and Potter Counties and the Dakota Lakes Research Farm Corporation hosted an “open house” on their farms October 26, 2011 to view the success they’ve had with cover crops this fall. Some producers were cropland only while the others incorporated cattle to their resource management strategy and the Research Farm offered an “end of the season” look at the results of a variety of species in test plots. Each producer has unique goals for using cover crops in their conservation crop rotation. Organized by the SDSU Cooperative Extension Service, the Dakota Lakes Research Farm and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), specialists were on-hand to facilitate discussion for the techniques.

Question by : Should I cover my peach blooms because of frost tonight?
My mature peach trees are in full bloom and it’s supposed to get 32 degrees tonight with 2 to 4 inches of snow. Must I do anything to protect the blooms and get a good crop?

  1. yes cover them but remove cover as soon as temp rises in the Morning.if the sun shines on it for a little while it will scald them.you can also turn the yard sprinkler on the tree, this will keep it from freezing.
