raise bees

My Lady Friend and I went to Uncommon Ground’s Friday market. As we weaved through the raised beds on the roof, I was amazed to see this beekeeper working with some of the insects that are housed away from the plants.

I’d honestly rather be fighting a large panther than be chased down by many hornets and the like!!!

  2. Actually most people should be more concerned with bee, wasp and or hornet stings. There are more people ending up in the emergency rooms because of bee stings than any other insect, bug or spider. Not only that, more people are allergic to these stings. Spiders are not made to deliver their venom in to layers of skin. While bees, wasp and hornets have a harpoon for delivering their toxin. We humans are more likely to encounter one or more of these than a spider.

I have had many bee and wasp stings in my life. Most are nothing more than an annoyance. However, I was stung once, repeatedly by three wood wasp. It was very painful and made me very ill. The areas stung stayed swollen for 5 days.

  4. Bees and wasps live outside and are visible and avoidable. You kinda know where they’re likely to be.

The damn spiders where I live are Lurkers!!!! We have wolf spiders that lurk under anything on the floor but thankfully don’t climb the walls. We have huntsmen that do climb the walls and move real fast. Some are tiny, but some are larger than my handspan!! They can be anywhere, anytime, including in the car. I pulled up at a bottle shop the other night and the guy working there thought I was quite mad when I screeched to a halt, did a commando roll out the passenger side door with the engine still running and ran into the shop hyperventilating, grabbed a free newpaper, rolled it up and leapt back towards the car with it raised above my head. I guess he thought I’d had a fallout with my imaginary friend! There’s redbacks lurking in the garage, and I don’t know what the hell those things are lurking in holes in the backyard, they’re not funnelwebs, but they’re damn ugly… give me something that flies and lives outside any day!!!!! Please!!

  5. Nope.

You get a bee or wasp on you, you wave your hand, it flies away. Well, okay, the thought of being chased by many hornets is pretty scary, but I’ve only ever seen that in cartoons, so have no concept of it really happening.

Don’t like big spiders with sneaky habits and attitude, though.
