Pet ducks: where to raise them?

Question by : Pet ducks: where to raise them?
I plan on getting 2 Cayuga ducks in spring. I plan on either hatching them or getting them very young. For about two months, I will be staying at my grandmother’s house. I was wondering if it would be acceptable to raise them as ducklings here.

Her house and backyard are about average size. The backyard is about 70% cement unfortunately, but there are still plants and some mud to play in. There are a lot of flowers, and thus, bees. Bees won’t sting them will they? We plan on setting up a little kiddie pool for when they are old enough to swim. We definately plan to keep them inside for the first month or more of their development and plan to lock them up inside and night anyways. Will this environment be okay to play in until they get bigger? Will it bother them to move from one location to the next?

My backyard is 100% grass and slightly bigger. What is the recommended size recommended for two pet ducks, just to be 100% sure. Thanks for your response!

One Response to Pet ducks: where to raise them?

  1. As ducklings, you will need to keep them in a small/medium dog cage. When they are older put them in a large pen outside (not a tiny thing or one of them runs)
    Good luck 🙂
