Question by Izzy: Keeping urban pet chickens indoors?
I would love to have a pet chicken in my home. My room is about 8′ by 6′, and we have a medium sized, fenced in outdoor yard. I have two dogs, but I keep them away from my guinea pig so it shouldn’t be too hard for a chicken. But where do I start? Can I keep them indoors most of the time and take them out in the yard once or twice a day? Can I use chicken diapers? Is it better to get an adult or raise them from a chick? And lastly, how the heck can I convince my parents? Thanks so much!

  1. Ok ,well. It wouldnt be the best idea as the chicken gets older. But as a baby, it may be alright. You will need probably a cage or something in your room, so that it doesnt peck or destroy anything in your room!
I suppose you could you baby diapers, my friend once used some for her goat, im not sure how it would work on chickens but you can always try!
If you can take it outside as much as possible. Depedning on the age of your dogs, you may be abe to train them with your chicken,
If they look like they are going to do harm, you simply say in a harsh voice ”no” and if they still dont stop you step in front of your dog and smack it on the head. Not a punch, but not sissy either so it gets the idea that if he goes near your chicken nothing good comes about.
I reccommend getting the chicken as a teen, or a kid, not a complete baby though, as it may still want his mum.
And lastly, with your parents, well im not really sure! Just explain all of your plans on a night that your parents are happy, make them a cup of tea and get them some biscuits and sit them down?!
    Well good luck!

  2. Its great having indoor chickens. There’s no law that says you can’t! Chicken diapers will work if you train them and taking them outside a few times will be fine too. Its better to raise them as chicks since as adults its harder to tame and teach. You should also consider getting about 2-4 chicks because chickens are very sociable and get lonely and out of place. Make sure not to get a rooster because they tend to get overly aggressive to humans if not spend with enough. Hope i helped!!!
