Fallacies contemporary western society is founded on: governments (&
corporations) have our best interests in mind; nature is ‘out to get us’;
humans are somehow separate from the natural world; and- we must choose
between shivering in the back of a damp cave – or destroying the
environment. Forgetting that the environment is THE life-support system on
spaceship Earth. Like Plato’s prisoners, we have to turn around to see
things as they really are – for ourselves.

Great question. Contemporary western culture is supported by a few key
fallacies: Corporations & the gov’ment have our best interests in mind; the
natural world is out to get us; humans are separate from the natural
bio-sphere; and our choice is between shivering in the dark in the back of
a damp cave – or destroying our environment. We missed the fact that the
‘environment’ is THE life-support system on spaceship Earth. Like prisoners
in Plato’s cave, we must turn around to see for ourselves.
