There is no more sure fire way to get me smiling than to have me come across some happily clucking chickens in someone’s backyard. This one eyed me a bit suspicously.

Question by : Is it illegal to raise chickens in your backyard?
My neighbors own 2 chickens and raise them in there backyard. They don’t run lose or anything but I was wondering if it was illegal because it’s not like we live the country or on a farm or anything. We just live in the suburbs. They did ask us before they got them but I am still not sure if it’s legal to raise them.

  1. In most places it is legal. I live in a major city and there is no ordinance that prevents a person from owning chicken. Roosters are another matter. With the economy the way it is, more and more people are raising chickens and growing gardens. Good for them.
