Question by watermelon.: I’m not sure if I should get a degree in business or agriculture?
My dream is to open an organic farm with a bed and breakfast. I have no idea how to go about doing this. I was thinking I could go to college for business or agriculture, but I’m not sure which would be best. Or if I should just pursue nursing like I thought I would, to make money in order to open up this farm/bed and breakfast?

  1. I would go with the nursing degree so you can always get work. organic farming does not pay well and requires long hours of hard work and an amazing amount of organization.

I would get an internship on an organic farm for a season to see if this is really what you want to do or if it is merely an romantic notion.

If you want to get a degree in this go to a small school that has an organic farm where students work. Oberlin has such a program, for example. I believe Michigan state also does as well. Ohio State has organic ag but it is more research oriented at this point though I know they are beginning to change the focus of the program to more practical things.
