This is the second hydroponics system I drew on Scratch. I made this because students said they’d like to use computers to learn concepts more. The kids in Atapo Quichalan seemed to get a kick out of this; we used it to show hydroponics and Scratch at the same time. Created: 1/12/10. Credit: Amber.

Question by your little princess: if plants rot when overwatered, then how can they grow in hydroponics?
cause roots are always in the water when using hydroponics (instead of soil, water and nutrients are used), so I’m wondering how can this grow.

  1. The reason the plant’s roots die is because they can’t get any oxygen. In a hydroponic system, the water containing all the nutrients also contains oxygen and it is usually constantly circulated.

When you overwater a plant in a regular pot or in the ground, the water displaces the oxygen.
