invented in 1913, this solar water heater faces south (the house doesn’t) to supply hot water to the house.

Question by Mom of two: I would like to add a solar water heater to my house, if you have one, are you happy with it?
Our other option is tankless, we have used tankless before and were happy with it, but it seems like solar is more cost effective in the long run. We will likely be in this house for the next 30+ years.

  1. I installed one about 15 years ago when I first got my business started. Two people on the block already had them. They all liked them. Tankless is newer technology, and is quite luxurious. Solar water heating is Green, but not very luxurious. If you like steaming hot showers, go with the tankless heater. If you want to save money, go with the solar heating. It’s really easy to install. You have to have a good location on the roof where it can face south. You could even hook up the solar heating just to some hot water lines and keep the tankless on your shower line exclusively.
