Is it likely this is seasonal and they should get dusted on a regular basis?
What are other methods of controlling chiggers?

Chiggers are defiantly seasonal. It is only the larva that bother chickens or you. Problems are rather rare on chickens, but they can cause serious damage to them when they do. If you use carbaryl dust and it worked before, you might want to use again if you have a problem, but I wouldn’t just use regularly to control them. You may not see any problems with chiggers again. Some people recommend free range chickens to control chiggers and ticks around the house. Apparently chickens love the things.

I give mine the ashes from my wood stove. They love to roll around in and fluff themselves in the ashes. When the ashes are not available like in the summer months they make holes of fine powdery dust in the dirt to dust themselves in. I have also given them livestock insecticide dust to dust themselves in as they needed too…
I also have used Tempo to spray their chicken house down with while they are outside. A little goes a long ways towards controlling mites and other bugs…
It seems that it is the wild bird population that brings in the undesirable bugs to my chickens…

Guinea fowl are great for eating and controlling chiggers and ticks.also try powdered lime its good for soil and fowl.watch out for pest to come immune to powder pesticides.it can happen.
