Harvesting our home grown cantaloupe here in Arizona – November, 2011

Looks like it was just a little bit early to pick this great looking cantaloupe, but the last one I grew was eaten by bugs. It still tasted really good, but wasn’t as sweet as it should have been. I’ll be leaving the other cantaloupes on the vine for a couple more weeks.

  2. @Thagirion9 yeah, I’m gonna do my best to try and let them mature, but man they look so good, lol, it’s gonna be hard not to pick them haha I guess I should check the date I planted them and add up the days and get a pretty good date on when to harvest. Our weather is so crazy right now, almost hit 32 last night…from extreme heat to extreme cold like a week hahaha crazy!

  3. It’s hard to tell when the rind doesn’t change. Hopefully the bugs won’t get the others and you can let them mature more.

  5. @MajorRager76 oh hey thanks. I thought thats how it should be done, but I couldn’t resist because I had a single melon growing under another tree and I found it with holes & bugs. Maybe the birds opened up the last one? I’m going to wait on the rest until I can just pop ’em off like you said. Thanks!

  6. @herbprophet thats awesome,I bet it’s chowing down on the whitelfies. It’s funny how they love to stay in the same place. I have a fairly large green mantis that lives in our pony tail palm plant, he’s in the same place everyday, lol
