  1. @kiyafarm you wrong bro, you can’t pick the female flower, pick the male flower and remove the petal and put it on female flower. Female flower have a large stalk then male flower.

  2. also= I also learned it can’t help to gently turn them occasionally whether or not they are elvated, as this allow them to soak in the suns goodness. So how are things going at this time with your melons, and is 4 months a definite ideal timeframe to watch for?

  3. @kiyafarm= Nice vid lad….good looking Melons in the background too. Been researching melons myself, and found your video.

1 thing my grandma taught me in her VERY fruitful/sucessful garden, was as the melon gets bigger, elevate it a bit, on something like an upside down coffee can, this keep the melon from getting a soft spot from being on the damp ground, (when it actually rains), plus this makes it easier to find, as the vines & leaves tend to “hide” their fruit.

  5. I am in Melbourne and its March 20th. Watermelon fruit are just coming out. The biggest is about four inches long. How long will it take for the fruit to mature? and is it to late in the season for them?

  9. Hey my watermelon plant’s vines are only growing to about 15 in then they stop. The plant looks healthy but it’s not getting as big as it should. Do you know what’s wrong with it?

  11. Watermelon

When the stem curls and turns brown and the place where the melon touches the ground turns yellow, it’s ready. Rap it with your knuckles and listen for a dull, hollow sound.

Wow! What kind of seeds did you plant Ray? I thought it was good to get 7 melons on one plant that fully ripened. You should take pictures!

  15. @KLisaLisa Yes, 40 or 50, but they are only 1 inch long. The bumble bees have been buzzing around, they love the watermelon flowers. I’ve read that certain watermelon plants will produce 75 to 100 watermelons per plant so I’ll experiment and keep it well watered. It might be a little late in the season to get all those one inchers to full size and ripe, but live and learn.

That is an old wives tale! Just don’t take the seeds from your watermelon plant and expect to get the same kind of watermelon.

I can never tell what I am listening for when thumping! This method has always worked for me! I have a video on my channel showing how to pick a ripe watermelon. If you have watermelons growing on the same vine close to each other, you might want to pull the smaller ones off. You have 40 melons on 1 plant?

  19. @kiyafarm I hate the hybrid seeds. I purchased a super sweet cherry tomato and a black cherry tomato plant already started in the store and put each of them into a pot. I’m barely getting any cherry tomatoes out of them. The ones that I started from heirloom seeds are growing and producing fruit like crazy.

  21. @ehswan I worried about growing watermelons because I haven’t seen a honey bee in my neighborhood for twelve years. I have one growing now and the bumblebees are going nuts over the yellow flowers. People really need to learn that pesticides over promised and under delivered.

  22. @KLisaLisa Good advice. I planted a couple of seeds, but I forgot to label them then transplanted one into my garden. I didn’t know if it was a watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber or pumpkin. Turns out that it’s a watermelon. I’m hard of hearing, so people telling me to thump it until I hear a certain sound is not going to work for me. I have one eight inches, two three inches and about 40 to 50 inch melons started. The bumblebees love watermelon flowers.

  23. is that a squash in the bed behind you? it may have been what cross-pollinated your watermelons. I just planted squash and melons i the same bed and have just found out that it’s a bad idea. I’m hoping the bees in my garden will sort it out for me…there’s always next year. Good luck.

  24. @kiyafarm I live on a farm in VA and FYI – it is rare that you get any yield of what you want (fruit, flowers) from plants that “volunteer” (ie they grow on their own from a past seed.) I have NO idea why! LOL! You need to plant seeds or started plants on purpose and you will get a healthy start! Let us know if this worked for you this year.
