Question by georgia: Does anyone know of a good lighting program that has been sucessful for broiler chickens?
I would love to find one that has been shown to work successful to aide in the growth and development of broilers and to help with over all feed conversion. I know that a good lighting program is essential, i’m just not sure which one to try. Please only educated answers. Thank you.

  1. yes, light does impact growth. Chickens will roost when it is dark and not eat. Increasing the light period will decrease roost time.

  3. standard all round lighting is fine , florescent lighting . as long as it is consistent.
caged birds it doesn’t make much of a difference , your heating is essential for growth or avoidance of heat or freezing stress , you want maintain a consistent comfortable temperature , growth is determined a lot on the stress , if you are doing organic or free range your parabolic steroids are usually not allowed so then you rely on your grain/tallow/antibiotic mix
