Question by rob_kendalluk: does any one know where i can get free plans to make a solar water heater?
any web links or emailed plans would be great…..the idea is to build a solar heater for a pool
thanks so far for the comments, although ‘conspicuous consumptionist’ would i think be a triffle overboard…surely anyone wanting to investigate renewable energy sources for whatever reasons should be praised…..
info only in future please? thanks

  1. I very much doubt that this is possible.

The plans are probably confidential and/or you may have to pay to use them, even for private use.

    Good luck trying!

  2. The link below may give you a start. You’ll obviously need something a lot bigger. Solar is usually used by conservationists, not conspicuous consumpsionists.

  3. Before you go to the trouble, make sure the kind you end up making can help you with tax breaks and stuff. Here’s more info:

These are plans for a smaller version. I have seen books in the library that have plans but as of right now I cannot remember the names. I will try to look and then let you know.

This is a nice how to for a small scale passive heater. I have seen larger (like 4’x8′) home made panels used in ND to heat small buildings. It wouldn’t get it to 80, but it surely takes the chill out. Note: these wer closed loop systems that used antifreeze, radiators, and a thermostatically driven 12v solar powered citculating pumps.
