Can an indoor grill be almost as good as grilling outside?

Question by JanetM: Can an indoor grill be almost as good as grilling outside?
I’ve been considering purchasing an indoor grill. I’m hoping I can come close to duplicating that grilled look and flavor that I get when using the outdoor grill. I’m looking at open indoor grills, not contact grills that are more like a ridged griddle than a grill and cook both sides at once (like George Forman… NOT grilling in my opinion!). Yes, there is the broiler, when the weather is bad or in winter, but that doesn’t include kabobs or veggies (among other things) that I can ordinarily do on an outside grill. In researching, a site listing the top indoor grills, I came across the Zojirushi EB-CC15 Indoor Electric Grill. I did some reading about how to choose an indoor grill, and the Zojirushi seemed to have all the features recommended, including being (magically) smokeless.

I would welcome any advice or recommendations for purchasing an indoor grill, and reading about any experiences others may have had.

  1. For indoor grilling I use a Ron Popeil Rotiserrie grill.
..I think your idea would make the kitchen dirty..
Even my cast iron cooking on the stove top sends residue onto the walls.

  2. I used to cook homemade burgers on my george foreman grill all of the time. It doesn’t get that flame broiled taste, but still tastes wonderful, if not ‘cleaner’

No grill will be completely smokeless.. You’ll always get smoke from the fats burning up

  3. ive never heard any one say anything good about an indoor grill! you’re buying grill marks, charcoal really gives food a flavor, if you’re doing chicken or something that cooks a while on a gas grill you can add a wood pouch and get flavor. I use strictly natural charcoal and mesquite for everything. I don’t bother with separate woods , mesquite or maple are good all purpose. but slow cooking on natural charcoal will give you flavor in everything. my gas grill I use to light the charcoal lol.
