Question by Johnny Guru: Are pet turkeys safe to raise around young children?
I have young children and I want to raise a pet Turkey, as I have heard they are very effectionate if reared as pets. I am just afraid that they could harm my children (i.e peck their eyes) as I know they can become big….

  1. Turkeys aren’t dangerous but they aren’t affectionate and I’ve never heard of anyone raising them for pets. We have turkeys but we raise them for meat.

  2. Turkeys don’t really make good pets. They’re not especially affectionate, and they have a tendency to claw (their talons are quite large and can do serious damage to skin even if they’re not trying to injure someone).
