Question by Susan J: A stray cat I found is leaving small, brown, worm-shaped things on her bed when she sleeps. What could they be?
The things are not alive as far as I know. They are brownish red, very tiny, probably less than 1/32 of an inch long and have a worm-like shape. I am finding them curled up, almost as if they have died. It falls off of the cat when she sleeps and when she gets up, 10-15 can be found left wherever she was laying. It seems as if they might be coming from her butt since they are always found where her rear end was laying. I have given her a bath and sprayed her with flea medicine and do not know what it is.

  3. She has worms! Take her to the Vet and get her some meds. They always come out dead. But they still can be spread to other animals.

  4. She needs to be DE wormed. Preferably by a vet and it only cost about 6 or 7 dollars for a lifetime.

Since this is so apparent please let the vet examine her and give her the pill.

Over the counter worm pills may not do the trick since this sounds pretty bad. Hope this helps your cat.

  6. Ya thats worms. Depending on what type you might have to put her to sleep. Check her butt. My friends cat had worms and her butt was bloody like. Yes I’d check with a doctor, or just go buy her some at like pet co or pet supplies plus.

  7. It is most likely flea excrement. Fleas have a cycle and their eggs can survive some flea baths and they get into bedding and carpets which should be washed too.

  9. Your kitty needs worming and vaccination. See a vet. If your cat is not wormed you are at risk of catching toxoplasmosis – which can cause blindness!

  11. What you are seeing is feal dirt (fecal matter). Fleas eat the blood of cats and what they excrete looks exactly like what you describe. For obvious reasons, fleas do tend to congregate closer to the hind quarter of any animal they infest. When you spray flea spray, you kill any fleas you happen to hit at that minute. Fleas only jump on the animal to feed, and then will drop off and wait for another victim to happen by for the next meal. I’ve seen figures that say that fleas spend less than 10% of their time on the animal and the rest in the environment.

Your best bet is something like Advantage or Frontline. You apply it, according to directions, once a month and the fleas don’t even hop on to feed. It will also kill fleas and destroy flea larvae anyplace the cat lays. If there is one flea on the cat, there are twenty waiting to hitch a ride at a later time, probably in the carpet.

  12. It is worms do not try the worm stuff at the store go to the vet and the will give you the medicine. The store stuff won’t work and you need professional help. The worms will make the cat sicker and sicker. You must seek vet attention. It won’t cost a great amount so please go.

  15. They are NOT worms – they are flea droppings. They appear to drop off from the cat’s buttbecuase during the day, the flea droppings on the cat’s coat are rolled down towards the cat’s tail through the natural rolling motion of the cat’s back. Flea larvae feed on flea droppings. So what you need to do is to treat the cat for fleas:
    1) bathe the cat in warm soapy water
    2) apply a flea deterrent like Advantage or Revolution
    3) washe all the cat’s beddings in warm soapy water
    4) vaccuum regularly

  16. From your description it’s definitely some sort of internal parasite. Since the cat was a stray you have no way of knowing, so a trip to the vet’s is in order. Take a specimen of the parasite and a specimen of her feces to the vet so he can examine it and determine what medication is needed. If she had a lot of fleas it could be tapeworms, which are easily treated.

  17. butt worms..LOL thats what I call them, they are usually white or off-white color though. Its tapeworm and it gets in your cats stomach. try a de-worming medicine (10-12$ at any pets store) and it should clear up the problem. and keep up the flea treatments, fleas are usually the cause of tape worm according to my vet.

  20. Get the cat to the vet! Worms can be very fatal to a cat. That depends on what kind of worms that he or she has. So please get her to the vet to give her the care that he or she deserves.

  21. They are actually worms….The are coming out of the cats butt. They can actually make a cat very ill, as well as other animals around them. You can purchase deworming pills that you add to their food and it will kill them off. You can do treatments monthly.

  22. It does sound like your kitty has worms… I’d strongly recommend calling a vet and bringing in some of the “droppings” (gross I know..but it can help the vet to tell what it is) Hope things work out well for you and your kitty….

  23. Take her to the vet or go to the pet store & get DeWormer she has worms Bad times you have to mix it with a little bit of canned cat food to get her to take it. I had a cat with worms and My vet told me it’s not healthy to keep her in a carry cage for the duration of the treatment. You are going to have to clean EVERYWHERE That cat has been.
