Question by Faye: Is your computer solar powered?
your home? elaborate
People, photovoltaic solar panels store up energy and can indeed by used at night! lol They are actually very effecient at doing so
OK correction in my oversimplified speech- they are able to generate energy that can then be stored and used as needed.
Im pleased to have some real answers πŸ™‚

  1. No, you silly! I’m inside it’s pitch black outside, I have the curtains drawn so not even non-existant moonlight would power this laptop. Thanks for the LOLZ anyways, funny question!

  3. That wouldn’t be very good since you could only use it during the day. Plus, it would need to be in direct sunlight. No fun.

  6. Currently we are using Solar Power for Water Heater and Lamps. We are trying to save that in big battery. Once its over we use the same as UPS.

  8. Faye,

Solar panels do not store power, they only generate it during the sunny hours. They can send that power to a battery bank, that stores it and allows you to use it at night.

We have some solar panels installed here at work, and the inverter coverts the DC power to AC, and connects them to our electric panel. The solar power just goes into the general pool of available power, so yes, my computer is at least partially powered by solar.

  9. Hi, Faye.

None of our computers could be called solar powered, but our house gets most of its electricity from solar. Our panels don’t store electricity, but the net effect of the system is that they act like they do. If you’re interested in the details of how it actually works, contact a solar installer – they might have a reference nearby, and you could look at that system.
