Would you let your dog into your bed?

Shot on an early morning stroll around Wallingford’s old castle grounds. I always find it tough getting myself out of bed so early on the weekends to go and catch the early light, but usually find it’s worth it! There’s also something to be said for having such stunning landscape all to yourself at that time of the day. Apart from the odd dog-walker of course…

Question by ♥ Divine ♥: Would you let your dog into your bed?
If your dog wanted to get into your bed would you let it in? I have two dogs, Toby a large German Shepherd cross breed, and Sasha a pedigree Staffie. Toby will sleep on my bed for a while at night then jump down and sleep on the carpet, but Sasha is on my bed all night and sometimes wants to get under the covers for a cuddle, especially if it gets cold overnight. Even when she’s on the top of the covers she’s still right beside me, and sometimes she has more of the bed than I do! I know I’ve spoilt her and it’s my fault she’s like this, but she doesn’t have fleas or worms and in that repsect it’s not too unhealthy. I hope.
Would you let your dog in your bed?
Repsect isn’t a word. I mean respect.
I’ve just remembered that not so long ago my mum was asleep on her bed and her dog was asleep behind her, and when the dog rolled over she knocked my mum on the floor and she broke her arm!

  7. My dog is also free of worms and fleas but he sleeps in his bed and I sleep in mine. He is not allowed on my bed. Just a personal preference really. When I was young I had my dogs sleep with me and I lived through it.

  8. NO!! I would not let my dog in my bed with me!! When I did have a dog though I would let him sleep at the end of the bed when he was a pup as he liked sleeping there. But when he got bigger I bought him a dog bed and he slept there!

  9. yeap! I sleep with my dog everyday. Just always be sure she’s clean. Wipe her paws before letting her go to ur bed. And to be sure, bathe her everyday to avoid itch.. Its very irritating to have an itchy sleep

  11. I don’t have a dog, but if the dog isn’t trying to push me out of bed I would. I do share my bed with a pair of cats, after all, and I do know a dog that likes to sleep with his head on a pillow and coverred with a blanket.

  15. Yes. I don’t think i would like to sleep on the cold hard floor, or an itchy wooden basket. So what if dogs aren’t humans, that doesn’t mean we should treat them like robots.

  21. I do not have a dog. I have two pet hens. They are soft and feathery and would probably be nice in bed but the problem with them is they have no bathroom manners at all and will take a dump anywhere suddenly and without warning. For this reason I will not take them to bed with me.

  25. My two little dogs always sleep in my bed, the chihuahua under the covers by my knees and my lhasa on top by my feet. One thing I try try try to do is make sure they know it is MY bed I invite them up and kick them off if they ghet piggy with the cuddles. Of course I am dealinf with two nine pounders… but ya know, basic priciples apply.

  27. To be honest, no matter how well cared for the dogs are I think it’s gross. Also dogs are pack animals and have more secure lives if they have an indentified leader who does things differently to them. Allowing them to sleep with you means you are just one of the pack.

  30. No you should not let any pack animal that is domesticated relax at the same level as you. It gives them a sense of who is the boss.

Apart from that, it is unhygenic!

I have a fully ‘intact’ Staffy cross Jack Russell of 13 years of age who I’ve had since he was 8 Weeks old. He is very intelligent and subsequently knows his place. And whatismore, even now If you give him an inch, he will take a mile.

  34. No…..Two huge German shepherd brothers,I’d end up on the floor ! Seriously, not healthy or hygienic. Even if treated they can still have worms and fleas without you knowing. Also,as I’m sure your aware of,they lick parts of themselves then maybe lick/drool on the pillow or bed sheet or you. Ideally dogs should not be allowed in the bedroom at all.

  36. Personally I wouldn’t. It’s not just a matter of not having flees or worms. Some dogs would end up treating your bed as part of their territory and this could create problems.

Also don’t forget, dogs do not clean their feet or wipe their bottoms before walking into the house and going on to your bed!

I firmly believe that the people who allow their dogs to sleep on their beds are the same people who do not remove their shoes before entering their homes either. It’s a matter of cleanliness and self respect.

  40. Absolutely positively without a single question, I sure as heck would. And I would not ask anyone else if they approved or not. I’m in my eighth life cycle (if you know how many years make’s one life cycle, you’ll know how old I am) and I’ve owned many loving animals that I snuggled up to every night, and all were content in the homestead.Yupers ,they sure as heck were. Now,let me share alittle moment late in the night when all the bed bugs are sleeping ever so tight; Bubba,my german sheperd,( may you rest in peace Bubba) and I were side by side and my foot kicked him, to my surprise, he thought he was being attacked, and naturally, his instinct was to attack back! Ouch, fortunately my foot was under the thick comforter, and he was unable to break my skin. My last little bedtime story to share took place about 12 days ago.My sweet cat,Snapperdoodles and I were sleeping ever so close ,he in my arm and side, when the next thing I know is this incredible pain and ton’s of blood everywhere.Snappoo was woke up by my arm twitching into his behind area, and it scared him so bad, that he tried to burn rubber out of my grasp.Unfortunately,he sliced open a vein on the top of my hand, and to my surprise,I had quite an injury to deal with .So,yes I still would not have it any other way.My animals are my life. And that’s all I have to say about that. P.S. I will give a hint to those who know not how many years to make one life cycle; Snow white.and the ——- dwarfs.

  42. I think it’s a question of respect and boundaries between the leader and the dogs. I have 2 and they wanted to come in the bed when they were little and I never allowed them so I don’t have to compromise my comfort while sleeping. Also, it makes them understand the limits and for dogs, having limits gives them a sense of trust towards their caretaker.

I believe if you are going to have an animal then you should treat them as if they were like a child to you and honestly by having him sleep with you it will make him even closer to youBUT the time you stop having him on your bed next to you he will cry cry cry for that he feels as if you are ignoring him or if he has done something wrong so the best thing to do is if your going to have him sleep with you make sure its really what you want for he will want to allllllll the time SWEET DREAMS TO YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS
