Question by ?: Why isn’t my goat eating ?
I have a goat at the school farm for about 2 months now & when I fed it it would go straight to the food but yesterday I fed it & I came back to Feed it again but all the food was still there? So I get it more food & it didn’t even eat any of it it just stared at me. Idk if it could be sick it hasn’t been baaing & when it did it sounded diffrent. What do u think could be wrong with him:/

  2. It could be a change in the weather, has it gotten a lot warmer lately (or colder depending on where you live)? I used to raise goats for FFA so I know how important it is to keep them eating so they stay in shape for show.

I would just keep an eye on him for the next 24hrs (two feedings) and make sure you dump out the old feed he doesn’t eat so that way you can tell how much he ate while you were gone. You can also try putting dry cake mix in his feed, but just Vanilla so it’s not too much of a shock for him, and don’t put the whole box in, just sprinkle some on top of his feed.

If he still isn’t eating in 24hrs I would get him to the vet

  3. A goat going off feed, regardless of age, is usually a sign of disease, parasites, or bloat.
Make sure it has access to some baking soda, if the cause is bloat, this will aid in the goat being able to relieve the gas pressure.
No matter what, get it in to the vet! as I said, it isn’t a good thing when any goat goes off feed.
