Why do conservatives still think that wind and solar power are future technologies?

We signed up for Yokohama Green Power project. Within January, we will put 3kW solar system on our roof, heavily subsidized because it comes with a HEMS Home Energy Measurement System. Ours will be one of 50 study projects in the area to collect data by the minute to analyze energy usage patterns. HEMS means usually home energy management system, but we forgo the remote-control-everything part.

YGP is part of YSCP Yokohama Smart City Project.

Blogging about the experience.

Question by Aaron: Why do conservatives still think that wind and solar power are future technologies?
I keep reading people argue that we have put so much money into research, and that solar and wind are not viable options for supplying our energy needs. 10 years ago Germany put solar panels on all homes and have now generated as much power as they would have if they had built 8 nuclear (or if you are conservative, “nukeular”) power plants. Germany and the Netherlands use 300 foot tall wind turbines that are cost effective, and could be used in this country to generate power.

Of course we know the answer to this question. Conservatives believe everything that business tells them, and low and behold, the people who make money on the system, say that other systems will not work. Mind blowing!
I find it fascinating how every time I ask a question that is in response to answers that I have read on here, no one believes anything that I have read previously.

I don’t care what Al Gore does or doesn’t do, I don’t care what you like or don’t like. The government should make certain choices to good for you to not make.

And you libertarians with your choices. Can you choose to drive on the road or not? Can you choose which power company you are going to go with? How many choices do you really have. You could choose to drive cross country and avoid roads, but that is not a good choice, so you drive on the roads.
Solar is not economically feasible today, however with tax breaks it is. The Germans made them basically free, and then forced the power company to purchase the power back. This made their power bills much less expensive, and the panels were free. Panels are also good for over 20 years, I’m not sure where many of you get your information, but you might want to think about turning off fox news and Limbaugh.

  2. I like both. They promote self reliance. I just don’t like government making me use them. I wish to do it voluntarily.

With all the hate rabid liberals have of independent and self reliant people you would think they would hate wind and Solar.

  4. How come Al Gore doesn’t have any of that crap on his house? Shoot, his house isn’t even energy efficient.

  5. Liberals, like the Kennedy’s and the Cape Cod snobs are all for wind power, so long as they don’t have to look at it. They fought and fought to keep a wind farm from going in, in the waters off the cape.

  6. Because solar power is uneconomical.

Putting solar power on a home, takes around 30 years to recoup the cost of the installation.

The only problem being, the Solar panels only last 10 years before they must be replaced.

So you end up paying alot more for the energy you use than before.

    2. The reasons conservatives say they are future technologies, is because they are not economically viable right now.

The cost are not worth the benefits.

3, yes we can get energy from them, but it would double or triple the cost of that energy, compared to what we are using today.

And there are not very many people who can afford the have their energy bill tripled.

    4. In the future, there will be solar panels that are more efficient and can produce more energy and panels will be made of better materials that have a longer life span, then those solar panels will be economically viable to install.
