  2. Aquaculture allows the plants to grow quicker by giving them a measured amount of food that the plant can take in faster and more efficiently than by extracting it from soil. The whole growing process can be more finely controlled and finely tuned. The roots are given a proper supply of air (oxygen, to be precise). In more complex systems, even the atmosphere can be manipulated- ie, fed CO2 when it is needed in the day, and O2 at night (or is it the other way round????).
In many systems the plants are grown under artificial lighting also, the times of darkness and light being carefully controlled for optimum growth.

  3. Aquaculture is more efficient space-wise, feed-wise, and is environmentally any other meat farming type. First off, the fish that you are farming are in ponds, so they will not be erroding the landscape, and you can stack pong after pond after pond. Then, fish have a high food-pounds conversion rate, 1-1 to be exact. That basically means that one pound of food is equal to one pound of fish. They are healthier because the base of the food system is algae, which puts a high omega-3 fatty acid content onto the meat. Omega-3’s aregood for your heart, so that is how they make fish a healthier choice, than, per se, beef.
