We were out chippin’ and shreddin’ yesterday which involved the pitchfork and I figured this picture was a natural for our last day at the farm.

Question by sweetcherrywine99: What are the current deductions for purchasing energy effecient appliances for 2008?
In 2008 I purchased an refrigerator and additional freezer and hot water heater, all rated with the energy effeciant seal…are they deductable

  1. No you cannot. In prior years, they used to allow hot water heaters as a deduction but the revised 2008 form doesn’t allow it.

    For 2008, you can only deduct the following qualified costs on form 5695-Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit:

    Solar electric property
    Solar water heating property
    Fuel cell property
    Small wind energy property
    Geothermal heat pump property

  2. The manufacturers were the only ones who got tax credits for making refrigerators and freezers. Consumers never got one.

    As for the water heater, there’s no credit in 2008. Even in 2009, the credit is limited to the top of the line models. The energy star seal isn’t the standard.
