Question by Meli: Setting up a show goat?
Just got a show goat and Im not quite sure how to exactly set him up? Some help?

  1. I don’t know about goats but different breeds of dogs and rabbits get “stacked” or set up differently, depending on the breed. The breeder you got it from should be able to help you or the standard of perfection for the breed. Lots of luck with your showing;)

  2. It depends on the breed, sex, and age of your goat. In pygmy goats their legs are set up square. Each leg is directly below its shoulder. In lactating dairy goats the front legs are set up square and the back are spread apart and moved back to show off her udder. If you had a buck or a kid dairy goat then you would set it up square in the front and just a little apart and back with the back legs.
    There are ways to make flaws look better when you set up your goat. If he has a narrow chest than setting up his front legs a little wider than square will give the illusion of more space. If the back legs on a dairy goat are posty then place them further back to make them seem more angular.
