Hi, so at my feed store (the one close to me) there is budgie seed, canary seed, wild bird seed, premium wild bird seed, parrot seed, hamster feed, rabbit pellets, one labeled simply bird seed… There is no food specifically for chickens and that is the only feed store close to me. (unless I go to Bulk Barn- a Canadian favOUrite) I was wondering which feed would be the closest for my chicken.
Add: I just moved her and I have a container of her old food left- I am running out and need more but those are the only selections. She isn’t a laying hen and she isn’t really mean’t for anything
No, she lays. We just don’t eat the eggs. She is eating chicken feed now. There is also pigeon seed and there are no more livestock isles to find chicken feed…

I’m surprised that a feed store doesn’t sell chicken/poultry feed. Ask if they will special order for you. Purina has a variety of chicken feeds, and also check the brand of her old food. Since you don’t mention where you live, check the web for places near you. If you only have one chicken, shipping shouldn’t be expensive.

Any grain you could get should work till you find a feed store. Chicken feed is best but if you can’t get that, supplement her diet with some bird seed and also, table scraps (she’ll love you to death). Just remember to give her some small rocks, flecks of shale, or what ever so she can use it to grind up her food (chickens need small sharp rocks to eat so they can keep it in their gizzard to grind up food).

You want chicken mash. Call around to some farming places or grain elevators, you should find some there. Call up a local chicken farm and find out where they get theirs.

Chicken feed isn’t in the bird section. It’s in the livestock section. It’s in big paper bags, usually with little pictures of chickens on it. Look for the Goat, Pig, and horse food. It’s usually tucked up one of those aisles.

bird food is actually ok for them to eat.
they get bored when you just feed grain u know.
I feed mine lettuce, bok choy, peas, corn kernnels, egg shells (calcium) and breads.

She probably isn’t laying because you aren’t feeding her correctly!
You NEED to feed her Layers Pellets / Mash, no other feed will do. That supplies all the nutrients and vitamins chickens need. You can feed them handfuls of cracked corn once a day, too, if you like but Layers Pellets are essential.
Order them offline if you can’t get them from a shop, although I would think somewhere would sell them.
