  1. Old used railroad ties, do very good, but landscape 4x4s do just fine as well.

As to the contents of the bed in which you are growing things, most people use them usually as lettuce beds.

First of all, you take some dirt from your garden test for ph somewhere between 5.6 – 7.2 you place it in the bed, and then mix in, and you may not sound the likes of this, but mix in some decomposed horse manure, yes, horse manure, it is the very best compost you can get for your garden.

Mix it in real good, and let it settle for a day or two following a day of good steady rain, and then place some triple 19 fertilizer in on the very top about an inch into the soil, not too much now, you burn the ground and it won’t grow anything, after you’ve accomplished this much, you can then plant your choice vegetable in the newly built raised, we call them “Hot beds.”

    O.k. Hope this helps some!

    Happy gardening!
