  4. Good grasp of the basics of electro-magnetism. Good cheap starting point
for a ‘Tinker’ project so you lean the basics. Everything has a learning
curve, and this would be a good way to get started with what can be had
from parts stores or salvage yards for cheap… About where I started in
    the 70s…

  6. for installing alternator brushes, it’s best to use a wooden toothpick or
plastic pin. If you forget to pull a metal pin out and hook up the
alternator, the dead short across the field circuit may fry the regulator.
If you forget to pull out a wooden toothpick, no damage.

  7. Is there a formula to use and calculate the for example how much voltage is
produced if I have 20 gauge wire, 40 turns, and magnetic field of 0.001T
    and 800 RPM? :)

  11. Stupidity is a worldwide phenomena. It’s just that americans tend to
advertise it more loudly AND there are more of them. For true world class
stupidity, no one can out do rural Australians. It’s so bad that no one in
Asia, from cab drivers to household shipping companies, wants anything to
do with them. As a white guy living and traveling in many parts of Asia
(Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam) the 1st
question I’m always asked is if I’m Australian. No = OK.

  12. @cojobo34 MECHANICAL TO ELECTRICAL HAS BIG LOSS AND ELECTRICAL TO
MECHANICAL HAS LOSS. THE WIND IS WILD AND THE SPEED OF THE LOW TORQUE WIL
FLUXUATE TOO MUCH, PLUS THE LOW TORQUE WILL NOT RUN THE GENERATOR WITH A
LOAD ON THE GENERATOR. THE AXIAL FLUX WIND TURBINE WITH A DECENT BATTERY
BANK WOULD BE ABOUT THE BEST IDEA ON ALL THAT. MUDDy

  16. I skipped ahead a bit, but I think you forgot to cover “clocking” an
alternator. I think you are using a GM 10si or (clone or 12si, but it looks
like a 10). They can be “clocked” four different ways for different types
of cars. Normally, I’d make a “hash” mark with a chisel to aid reassembly
but that would just ruin all the shiny you got going on there.

McMansion for talking points on the latest sunspot count twice yearly. But
I’m sure he uses E85 fuel so he can manage to starve more third worlders
    while burning crappy corn gas.

  21. Hi, I’m watching your video, out of sequence. What other videos do you have
on making wind turbines? If a car alternator is not a good choice, what
would you recommend for a home-made alternator?

  24. Agree to some degree. Better to use subsidized corn destruction for fuel
than nothing. Also it is a process. I disagree with the drill drill
mentality. We could drill everywhere and in 10 years lower gas prices by
10¢ a gallon. Make a few billionaires better off. I know a lot of people
hate e85 but it is a start towards funding cellulose usage.
