  3. It’s special that you have this funny memory. My dad died 9 years ago and I remember funny things about him just like it was yesterday. Always hold on to that memory and remember he is still watching over you.

  4. I am truly sorry for your loss. It’s the good memories like these that remind us of how lucky we were to have known them, isn’t it?

I was the best man at my little brother’s wedding. My father was present there… He died last year. Here’s the toast I gave (it was a bit more serious than your husband’s):
    ——————————————————
My family and I have loved Jim his entire life. And just when we were finally getting to LIKE him… he went off and got married.

Health, love, and prosperity… and the time to enjoy them all. (I raised my glass here…) To Jim and Jill!
    ———————————————————
My good memory is of Dad, after everyone in the neighborhood knew he was dying, when he fell down in the front yard, and Mom went to get the neighbor to help her pick him up and get him to the car, for the fifteen-minute round trip they needed to make.

Upon seeing the neighbor across the street hurrying to Dad’s aid, the next-door neighbor came over to help too. They got him to the car, and Mom and Dad went on their way, but it got the attention of so many neighbors that by the time Mom and Dad returned, half the neighborhood was standing in the yard talking about him.

Dad, knowing the gravity of the conversation, but determined to bring it up a notch, said, as he got back out of the car, “Ok, I’m here! You can start the funeral now!”

  5. Isn’t it great that, whenever your having a lousy day, all of a sudden you think of something that makes you smile about a loved one who’s no longer with you. It’s kinda like they saw the day you were having and said “Remember this?”. I get those all the time, and they always make me smile, like yours did. Thanks…
