How was your experience owning a Pet Duck?

Question by IceAngel: How was your experience owning a Pet Duck?
Just a little curious thinking I might want to take on a duckling. Yes, I know they grow really fast and are kind of high maintenance but how was your experience?
Where did they live as in a coop or something? and is it possible they can be indoor ducks or is outside necessary? (not saying i wouldnt take them outside daily.)

P.S. Indoor as in over night and when I go to work and such….
Also, I know they can live very long and have read up on them quite a bit, this is all that i have left that i feel i dont know as of now. =]

it followed me home from a lake and i decided to keep it, but when i got home buddy (my dog) ate it. my neighbor heard my screams and ran in my house, when he saw me and buddy covered in blood he shot my dog… now i don’t have a duck, or a dog….

ducks are not good pets unless you want to have a small pool built and be prepared to have neighbors complain from the noise=) they make craps the size of your hand and it stinks really bad. im saying this and i raise chickens in my room so you kinda know its bad when your usedto scrubbing chicken crap of the floor=)

Ummm I haven’t raise any ducks but I raise chickens and that’s pretty close (I think..)
Well you can keep him/her indoors at night if you want to dedicate a room for it (or some kind of clean mess-able space for it to roam around)
It will also be fine outside at night, but make sure to use some kind of coop (any will do the trick as long as it is roomy) because cats WILL come and check out what’s in your back yard (rats as well).
Having two is fantastic as it will have a buddy to talk to during the days if you are working 🙂
Pools are necessary (It can be a kiddie pool as I’ve heard that they work great: NO CHLORINE WATER)
For INDOOR pools, bathtubs are fun as well but do you really want it to go to the bathtubs at an organized time?
I suggest that you at least let them outside most of the day time so they can have fun and play while it’s warm and come inside when it’s dinner time 🙂
(warning: hawks are the most scariest things you will encounter while the ducklings are still babies!!)
Note: Ducks can be indoor pets, but outside time is a healthy choice!
What I would do is keep them inside (since you want them to be inside) and let them out in the morning to play in the kiddie pool and let them back inside at around 3-5pm.
Maybe even 2 or 3 kiddie pools are good as well so they have variety! 😀

to tell the truth ,i had 4 duckling pets that grew pretty old.they must have water food and shelter to be safe from cats.when it is their time to learn how to fly,give them back to shelters.
