How should I keep my goat still during milking?

Question by Mel: How should I keep my goat still during milking?
I am fairly new to goats but have read everything that I can get my hands on!
We have a milking stand but when I start milking (after a nice brush down first and while she is eating) she turns her head back trying to butt or bite me. She is clipped to the stand by her collar but should I have something across the back of her head restraining her more? I can milk her if she keeps still but worry about over restraining her or hurting her during milking. As I only want to best for her, please help. Many thanks

  2. Goat in a better mood = better milk and easy milking

Since she’s trying to butt you out, I can infer that you’re not close to your goats. A few weeks of hand feeding her with fresh or leftover (but not that old) fruits would get her to love you in no time.

We have a couple of sheep we keep in the backyard and the first time I tried milking the female for a cheese project was very easy since she was busy trying to eat my shirt and the males keep breathing on my neck.

Pays well to get close to them.
