After a good workout, the trainer rewards an owl with several whole baby chickens. This one took all of 5 seconds for the owl to down.

Question by J.A.P.: how do you feed a chicken with no beak?
Today my neighbor’s dog which is loose attacked my chicken my family has been raising it for 3 months. it dragged in a cage from a long distance. I thought that stupid dog took the entire chickens body, but he was still in his cage like the fighter he was. But when i looked at his face most of his beak was ripped off while the lower part stayed dangling. I bursted into tears when i saw it. That dog pissed me off. After seeing this i vowed if i ever see that dog again, i will return the favor. I’m hear to ask how i am supposed to feed him now. I had him for a long time and he has grown on me like he’s family. I would like to know how to feed him. I heard that Mike the headless chicken survived for 18 months and was fed a mixture of milk and water via eyedropper. Please answer this question I have grown really close to this chicken. Any answer will help.

  2. Get him to a vet first ! He is probably in pain.

  3. First clean the beak, and remove dangling parts. If bleeding is a problem you can use flour, or baking soda, or cornstarch.

After that I suggest filling down the top beak. This will help him eat. If this doesn’t work you may have to actually debeak him, but I would use that as the second to last resort. Last resort would be putting him down if he is in a lot of pain or can’t eat at all.

Then I would suggest feeding him watered down food in a deep dish. This is so he can shovel the food into his mouth.

Best wishes, and really sorry to hear about what happened. Contact your neighbor immediacy, and show him your injured chicken. Make sure he understands that his dog can not be on your property, and If the chicken needs put down ask for compensation.
From the best of my understanding you have the right to defend your livestock. His dog on your property is at your mercy.

  4. As a ret vet I would advise putting your chicken to sleep as it will be very lucky to survive those injuries, and that would be the kindest thing.

Take it to a vet and I believe they will advise the same thing.

Sorry but I have seen this too often as for the Headless chicken that is a load of Cobblers

  5. I would euthanize or cull the poor bird. The beak is a VERY important part of a chicken and one that is almost impossible to heal.

The bird is in pain. Be swift.
