The Capricious cheese, pictured here, gets rubbed by hand with several coats of olive oil as it ages. The shelves are made of cypress, which Donna believes contributes subtly to the flavor of the cheeses. No two wheels of cheese are the same. "I’m not interested in conformity," says Donna. "I tell people we’re consistently inconsistent."

Question by jenna illingworth: feeding my dog goat cheese?
I own a small mixed breed dog named mona, and some dairy goats i milk my goats and make goat cheese somewhat like feta. my dog has always been on the leaner side but she is still healthy just not a big eater and fast metabolism. So i was wondering if it would be ok to mush goat cheese with her dog food i feed her blue, just to ecourage more eating. would this be healthy?
ps i know many of you might say feed her rice to fatten her or put some water in the food and heat it up or some other way to feed make youre dogs food more palatible but i just want to know about goat cheese
goat milk is not like cow milk to animals
goat milk is used to feed puppies and kittens if they dont have a mother
goat milk and cow milk are different

  4. In my experience dogs will eat just about anything, and communicate effectively to you whether or not they like it.

As long as your goat milk doesn’t have chocolate in it, its probably just fine.

  7. Give her a little and see if her stools change.

Rice is just empty calories unless you’re trying to stop diarrhea.

  8. Yeah, it should be fine. Dogs can eat a small amount of cheese in mixed in w/ their food. But you might want to be careful ’cause they can experience lactose intolerance, so watch her reaction to it.

  9. I don’t know about goat cheese but I feed my dog plain greek yogurt which is made from goats milk. His breeder recommended it to me. My dog loves it. Also my breeder says my dog can eat cheese, just not massive amounts. So if he can have goat milk yogurt and cheese, I cannot see the harm of goat cheese.

  10. Dairy is NOT species appropriate for dogs. If you want your dog to gain weight, just feed a little more of it’s regular food. If the dog won’t eat more, then it’s self-regulating, and you need to be content with the fact your dog will never be overweight. I had a Shepherd like that once. I knew NOTHING about dog nutrition, and I tried adding all kinds of crap to his food to get him to eat more (pasta, gravy, etc). Nothing worked. He would only eat a certain amount, and nothing more. You may need to just live with it. In dogs, leaner is healthier anyway.

  11. Yes goats cheese is fine! Cows milk etc is very bad for most dogs (and cats), but goat is great- I use it to get my yorkies to eat when they have litters, and even use goats milk for the puppies to teach them to lap- it’s that kind on their tummys! And since they are your goats, you don’t have to worry about additives etc…
I wish I knew someone with dairy goats for that reason!
    Best if luck!

  12. its fine to use goat cheese but not a big amount and dont use it everyday cause the dogs food already has everything that your dog actually needs. normally cheese is used as a treat but its fine to use a little in her food once a while.
