Question by rach: driving instructor – what should i do?
my driving instructor is quite mean and shouts a lot when he’s teaching – i think i’m doing quite well to say i have only had about 7 lessons but today I nearly cried ‘cos he was being so horrible. i really don’t like him but i think i’ll pass my test quicker if i stick with him. what should i do? plus i’d feel bad if i quit ‘cos i know his son and my twin also has lessons with him (and she wants to quit too). help…..

  4. Consider yourself lucky that you have an instructor that is passionate about his job. I had one that could’ve cared less and didnt’ even pay attention to me, and the other instructor I had died in the car while I was driving. So my experience wasn’t so good, I passed the test, but pretty much had to teach myself how to drive.

  5. Have your dad talk to him.
My niece had one like that and I had to talk to him.

  7. Well, for now, you’re kind of in a tight spot. But I would just do what he says until you pass (you’ll get better in time, anyway.) If he is being emotionally abusive (i.e. calling you stupid, swearing at you,) I would pull out immediately. Don’t give him your money.

  8. are there other driving teachers? Can you request a new teacher?

Maybe your parents can talk to the instructor and let him know that you all feel like he is being a little rough on you. Maybe he’s just miserable doing his job, in which case, he should be quitting. There are a lot of people in this world who aren’t happy in their jobs and they act out by treating people badly.

So, either all of you or your parents need to say something nicely. You could even try a nice little gift and tell him you are so happy he is teaching you….maybe that would cheer him up too???

  9. you can look at it from two points of view: you’re paying for it, so you deserve to get your money’s worth, which probably does not mean getting yelled at; the other way is that if you think it will mean that you will get done with it quick, you could just stick it out, and hope for the best

its up to you, good luck

  10. If he is making you uncomfortable, I would find someone else.
You won’t be quiting. You should feel comfortable with who you are learning from. You need to feel comfortable with your ability behind the wheel, and having someone yelling at you as you are trying to learning, can’t be a good thing. I have used a driving instructor before, and he was never this mean to me.

  11. I had the same problem with my driving instructor when I went to school. I cried every day on my way home and a friend and I tried to even get her fired! It never happened though. On the last day she told me that I was a horrible driver and that I couldn’t pass my test in a million years. What kinda of instructor is that? Just to let you know I passed both of my test with 100% thank you and have a clean record to this day. But you just need to hang in there and remember that when you are done with that class your insurance will be lower, you will have learned things about driving (like how to drive under pressure) and most of all that you will never see your instructor again. Life is hard and this is just one obstacle you have to get through in order to receive your license. Please just hang in there and remember he gets in the car with people who don’t know how to drive everyday. I think you would be a little tense too, I know I would. Good Luck

  12. before you start the lesson, ask him not to shout at you. Ask him to critique you on what you did wrong at the end of the lesson. So then you don’t have to worry about him yelling at you.

  14. I know you’re nervous, did you consider that you’re driving may be making him nervous too?
If he is yelling at you, that is one thing, if he is calling you names wihle he is yelling, then tell your parents and fire him. Also report him to his employer, and I’m sure the yelling will stop, because you will have another insructor.
Only you know how bad it is, you really shouldn’t have him that much longer either, you’ll be taking your test soon I would think. Good luck on the test, and don’t worry about it, the test isn’t that hard. Hey, I passed it, didn’t I?
