DIY hybrid water heater and air conditioner for my solar trailer project

Take standard small room 5200BTU air conditioner and re-think just where all that electric energy is going. ALL AIR CONDITIONERS ARE HEAT PUMPS! Instead …

  1. +xctome You’re wrong. Stretcharoni was right. All AC units are “heat
pumps”. A heat pump is any device that transfers thermal energy from one
location to another. It has nothing to do with whether said device is being
used to heat, cool, or both. That’s more a matter of which side of the wall
you’re on. If you need to validate yourself by jumping up to call someone
out and make an ardent confrontational correction & “EDUCATE” them it’s
always a good idea to make sure you’re not an idiot first because IF YOU
ARE then you’re just begging for someone like me to chime in and school
you. Tip: You’re already on the internet. *GOOGLE*

  4. Part 2. …the second section (in series by the way) to be traditionally
cooled via fan. To minimise energy input the fan may benefit from a
thermostatic control. That way when the water becomes heated, the first
section of the condenser losses performance the inlet to the second stage
condenser will trigger the air fan as required.

  5. A friend and I made a swimming pool heater this way, a few years ago. Used
a one ton a/c unit, made a small tank to house the condenser coil and
plumbed it into the filter lines. Worked like a champ! Though, at the time,
the pool was too far away from the house to utilize the cold air it made..

  6. Dude, not all air conditioners are a heat pump, a heat pump is called
reverse cycle heating, the flow of refrigerant switches via a reversing
valve, and the condenser becomes the evaporator and the evap coil becomes
the condenser, thus transfering heat from outdoors to indoors, window
mounted heat pumps cost about $400, there is no was in hell a $98 5,000 BTU
unit is a heat pump!! its a STRAIGHT COOL unit, witch takes heat from
inside, dehumidifies and dumps the heat outdoors.

  7. I LIKE WHERE YOU ARE GOING WITH THIS , but it cant just sit in a tub of
water ? as the water starts to heat up its going to change the pressures
across the coil and this will change the flash point and the head pressure
, these systems work on fairly precise temp/pressure settings controled by
the amount of refrigerant in the system , ??? you might want to try some
kind of water pump into a larger holding tank so you have enough room to
move the B T Us? or bleed off excess with heat exchanger

  8. I did an experiment that worked with a 12V 200W water heating element and
“24V” configured panels with the Solar Hybrid Hot Water Controller and no
other modifications. It was for a 6 gal tank someone was using. This might
work for you. See my channel or drop by techluck.com for more info. Or send
    me a PM.

  9. @swiftfraud09 viper? oh yeah… i’ve been living off-the-grid since Nov
2010 and need to get some new videos up. many people don’t understand how
the same dude can be so “green” on one hand, and also own a viper. to me,
    it’s no problem… i don’t commute anywhere in the viper – that’s not what
vipers are for. i own a viper because i can. also, because i love the
experience of driving my ultimate dream car.

  12. OK – this idea worked pretty well. I’ve been living OFF-THE-GRID now since
November 12, 2010 and have come up with a much better solution. For now, I
will only say that in my super-insulated dwelling, 1Kw of photovoltaic
panels was plenty of energy to run all of my appliances in the Winter.
That’s because ALL of your electric appliances produce heat weather you
like it or not… consequently, I needed NOTHING to keep me toasty warm
even on the coldest Winter nights here in …continued…

  14. You’re setting up a desuperheater. They’ve been around for a while. It will
work as long as the heat being dissipated is high enough to allow the AC to
cool. BTW water cooled AC units have been around for a long time in the
food service business. Of course most of the heat was wasted and not used.

  15. too bad you dont have a well, them you would have a constant sourcr of 52°
to 65° cooling fluid. the earths mass has a near infinite capacity to
absorb heat. air conditioner performance goes way up when condenser runs at
those temps! then in winter pass same water over evaporator and extract
heat to lessen heating load of inside spaces. you can still extract the
waste heat with a water to water exchanger inline before the well injection
    point

  16. It would be cheaper to just get hot water from a standing pilot water
heater, no electrical just natural gas where available. You would still
have to run it on 120V. You can also just turn it around and use it to heat
up a room for winter if the fan was still in place LOL.

  23. Yeah, I mistakenly thought that anyone interested in the video would have
enough of a background in physics to mentally take it from here. Many
people don’t see right away that the heat transferred to the evaporator
coil would have to obviously be exchanged to another, large, very well
insulated tank for the hot water storage. Of course, once you’ve got all
the hot water you want, the system would have to switch to an alternate
method of removing the heat from the condenser coil.

  24. Made a pool heater that way. Used a one ton unit and made a custom
condenser coil in a tube. Circulated pool water through the tube. Only
problem we had was without the fan to cool the motor it overheated. We just
cut a hole and used air from the evaporator instead.
