Question by Phil: Can vegans drink goat’s milk?
Like, what if they keep goats and the goats give milk. Could they drink that? There’s no cruelty occurring. Or am I missing the point?

  1. Its not only about cruelty. It comes from an animal. So no, Vegans do not drink milk from animals

  2. As far as I know, vegans strictly avoid all animal products. Although I see what you mean, if the animal belonged to them, then they could ensure that it was properly cared for, thus there would be no guilt involved.

  3. I don’t think they like the idea of animals being used to feed humans at all. Some do drink it, others don’t. There are all different types of Vegetarians.

  4. No, they are not only against the cruelty but also the fact that it is unnatural for humans to drink other animals milk. But it really depends on the person, I am sure some vegas do drink goats milk.

  5. What’s the difference… if they drink goats milk they might as well drink cow’s milk, it’s still from an animal.
If they can’t drink milk from any animals because it’s unnatural… does that mean that vegan woman are not allowed to breast feed their vegan babies?? Sounds a little contradictory to me

  6. Well, by definition you would still be considered a vegetarian, not vegan. Vegans use no animal products whatsoever. But, that’s a great choice if you’re vegetarian (assuming you’re treating the animal well).

  8. No. Because Vegans dont consume animal ‘product’ [pretty much anything that comes from or is an animal] and goat’s milk comes from an animal..the goat.

  10. Well, you would be taking milk away from the baby goat or keeping the goat lactating longer than necessary, so it’s not entirely pain free on the goat’s part. I really don’t have issues with people who keep chickens as pets and eat the eggs. That’s not a cruelty, I don’t think. It’s kind of a gray area. I’m personally not a fan of milk for health reasons. Sooo many health problems are linked to dairy. A lot of people have acne that won’t go away and it’s caused by all the hormones in dairy. I was shocked by how clear my skin got when I gave up milk. It’s linked to asthma too. Most of the world is actually lactose intolerant. But morally, I suppose it’s not the worst thing in the world to drink a little milk while the goat is still nursing it’s young. But to keep milking it beyond that for your own benefit isn’t right.

  13. It doesn’t matter how humanely the animals are treated- if you are consuming animal/animal bi-product, you’re not vegan.

  14. Yes, you are. Goats are animals. Vegan don’t eat or use anything that comes from animals. Do you see where I’m going with this?

  16. Nah, they can’t, because it’s still dairy. I suppose if the goat is treated well then it’s fine ethically to drink its milk, but vegans just don’t eat/drink dairy even if it is cruelty-free.

  17. Well the idea is to take only what you need. We weren’t necessarily designed to consume another beings milk and doing so usually leads to the exploitation of that being. Goats will not produce milk randomly, they must be impregnated and lactating. Even on that note, we’d be wrongfully taking milk from it’s young. I believe the idea is to void animal consumption in all it’s facets, because somewhere in the world these animals are being exploited for their meat and fluids (including milk). We don’t need animal bi-products to exist, so why contribute to the vicious system that exploits, commodifies, and confines sentient beings.

  18. no they cannot

vegans believe that it is wrong to consume any animal product, whether it was obtained in a cruel way or not. They believe that we have no right to raise animals in confined spaces, like a small farm etc..

  19. Vegans don’t eat animals or any animal products. So no, vegans don’t drink goat’s milk because it comes from the goat, and goats are animals. But even if they kept a goat and the goat gave milk, they wouldn’t be vegan if they drank it, they would be vegetarian. Vegans believe it’s wrong to kill or use animals in any way to feed humans. Well, the ethical vegans do, anyway. I believe it’s wrong to kill animals, but I don’t believe drinking milk or eating unfertilized free range eggs is wrong, but I’m a vegetarian, not vegan. Hope this helped.

  20. Nope. Goats produce milk only when pregnant, and they do that to feed their babies. Using goat’s milk is taking away that milk from the baby.

Lady Luck, it’s unnatural for humans to drink milk from another species. It is perfectly natural for a mother to breastfeed her child. She produces the milk for her baby and is giving it to the child willingly. A cow or goat is not giving the milk willingly to the humans who want to use it for their consumption. See the difference?
