Question by anna: Can a dog digest a turkey beak?
A neighbor has been raising a young turkey and I came home tonight to find that my seven miniature weenie dogs ate all but the feet and legs ! I’m very worried about the bones and there was no head so I’m pretty sure that the beak was eating as well! I’m very worried so if any one has experienced this or has an answer please let me know.

  1. Yes they have special digestive systems and they can digest almost all the things which they can eat! So don’t worry about it!

  2. I’d be more worried about the neighbor and the fact that your dogs killed other people’s livestock. They should have no problem digesting the turkey’s beak.

@Sabrez: You clearly know nothing about the canine digestive tract, so why don’t you shut the f#ck up until you do. There are enough juvenile idiots offering dangerous advice without you adding to their total.

@Justin: Nice of you to say so. I’ve been called much worse.

  3. Since you didn’t mention feathers – I’m guessing that they didn’t kill the bird themselves? If they did, you have a bigger issue with the dogs attacking the neighbours bird than whether or not the beak was safe for the dogs to eat.

    Aside from that issue, though…

Most likely if they can eat the bones without problems, they could eat the beak okay, too.

If you are worried, talk to your vet. When in doubt – he or she should always be consulted.

  5. You need to watch your dogs VERY carefully – and speak to your vet first thing this morning.
They cannot digest a turkey beak, and it could very easily get stuck and cause parts of the lucky winner’s digestive tract to die off.

I don’t know of any place in the US where the local regulations don’t include big trouble for an owner who allows their dog to kill another person’s livestock. If I were you, I would go out and buy them two new turkeys and a very good bottle of wine or case of beer. You’re in deep trouble.
