Question by QhandMinihorse: A few goat questions! Like: names, cost, ect.?
So I have a few questions about goats. I may be interested in getting on for my miniature horse (as a birthday present for her ^_^) I’ve had goats before but not Nigerians dwarfs.
– how much would it cost to own a nigerian dwarf wether per year?
– Do you feed your wethers grain?
– what do you like to do with your goats?
– Good goat names?

  1. One ND will go through about 1/2 a flake to 3/4 of a flake of hay a day. So a bale of hay should last at least 2 weeks. So about $ 20 a month. They should be feed oat hay, alfalfa is not the best full on diet for goats, but they should have it from time to time.
Wethers do not need grain, but it does help them look their best in winter. If you do feed grain get Noble Goat or something like that. Do not give too much grain because of urinary calculi.

I raise American and French Alpine Dairy goats, and South African fullblood Boer goats. I show my goats, breed for production and better genetics. I do have some goats that are retired show and breeder goats, and they are my pets.

Any name can be a good goat name, but these are some of the names I’ve had for my goats:
    Taffy
    Irene
    Jack
    Frosty
    Impa
    Willy
    Wile-E-Coyote
    Snow
    Moon
    Peeps
    Clarice
    Gracie
    Baby gray
    Wild flower
    Daisy
    Ginger
    Cookie
    Gibbs
    Whitney
    Cosmo
    Wanda
    Gimbo Jack
    Poppy
    Walea
Expensive Venture (it cost a LOT of money to get him on the ground)
    Rosey
    Pipsqueak

Pretty much any name is a good one. 🙂
